Loopholes in Illinois Law Allow Officials to Deny Access to Public Records

According to a Chicago Tribune investigative report, "In Illinois, getting a public record is a frustrating labyrinth of excuses, delays and denials."

"Don't like it?" the article continues.  "Hire a lawyer and file a lawsuit. In Illinois, that may be your only recourse."

While we can appreciate the opportunity to drum up business, what really is called for are changes to the state's Freedom of Information Act which, reportedly, has more pages devoted to what records you can't get than what you can.

Read the full report by Tribune reporter David Kidwell here.  And if you need to file that suit, be sure to select aggressive legal representation.
