Winnetka repeals handgun ban
Winnetka Village Council voted 6-0 Tuesday night to repeal the suburb's 20-year-old ban on possessing handguns, WBBM-780AM is reporting.
The action followed a recent Supreme Court decision and the filing of a lawsuit by three village residents who asserted the ban violated their 2nd Amendment rights.
Council members said they feared if they didn't repeal the ordinance it would cost the suburb thousands of dollars to fight the suit with the real risk of still losing in court.
In the Chicago area, five suburbs—including Wilmette, Evanston, Morton Grove and Oak Park—had gun bans at the time of the Supreme Court ruling and have now taken simliar measures to repeal them.

Earlier this month the State Journal-Register in Springfield reported that voters in 10 of the 14 Illinois counties that had an advisory referendum on their election ballots were in favor of a concealed carry law in Illinois.
Currently, Illinois and neighboring Wisconsin are the only states in the nation that do not allow citizens some form of concealed carry.
