Choosing a Law Firm: Does Firm Culture Matter?

What makes one law firm better than another?  Experience?  Size?  Cost?  What about the firm’s culture and values?

At Joseph P. McCaffery & Associates, our experienced team operates in a culture of trust, and we value each individual that comprises the firm.   Our clients also benefit from our culture.

An American Bar Association survey reports that a significant number of associates at large firms nationally work more than 60 hours per week.  At JPMA our associates average less than 40 work hours per week.  We purposely maintain a ratio that allows our team members to be focused on priority tasks, and enjoy their lives outside of work so they are at their best when working for our clients.

This also means our team members are available for clients in crisis.  We have the professional resource capacity for immediate assistance.

In short, our firm culture allows us to give our clients the best service available.

Expertise and Full Service When You Need It —

In addition to a team of five experienced and professional attorneys, JPMA offers services of law clerks and non-attorney specialists in business consulting, technology and communications who are available to support clients’ business/operational issues, preservation of data for litigation and, for high-profile cases, managing the media.

We also maintain flexible hours.  We are available during business hours, but we also schedule client conferences outside of the business day.  Our clients don’t have to lose wages or use personal time-off from their jobs to meet with their attorneys.

Would you want this  lawyer representing you?

... I am 9 years out “on partnership track” at "Biglaw," being told if only I can get a few more hundred hours billed this year and travel to remote offices ...I can maximize my chances at making it ... Yet my life is hollower and hollower... right now I am teetering on the edge of obesity, a crumbling marriage, children I don’t see for more than 10 minutes a day, abandoned friends who have stopped inviting me out because I cancel all the time, no community or social activities, inability to schedule a vacation that won’t involve me calling in and doing work. The really nice pile of money we are paid to do this is not worth it.

Excerpt of an actual comment that appeared on a Wall Street Journal Law Blog post asking if large law firms should be hiring more or fewer associates.
