DC v. Heller and the Impact on Chicago Handgun Ban
The US Supreme Court issued its opinion in DC v. Heller today, striking down the capital city's ban on handguns. This decision has impact Chicago's handgun ban.
Justice Scaclia delivered the opinion of the Court which, in quoting the syllabus, finds, “The Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia, and to use that arm for traditional lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home.”
Joseph P. McCaffery & Associates is prepared to fight these bans and invites all owners of unregistered handguns in Chicago and other local municipalities that ban the possession of handguns to contact us regarding representation of your Constitutional right to bear arms and challenge these unconstitutional municipal handgun bans.
Furthermore, Illinois law restricts the right of the ordinary citizen from leaving their home and carrying a weapon readied for self-defense. The state allows dozens of exceptions to its Unlawful Use of a Weapon (UUW) statute, none of which include ordinary citizens. We invite any citizen of the state of Illinois to contact us regarding challenging these provisions of Illinois' UUW statute.
